The impedance was recorded from 316kHz to 1Hz at room temperature (shown down to ∼10 Hz for pristine and down to ∼2 Hz for pretreated electrodes). change in the surface chemistry, which is in accordance with the appearance of peaks during the potential sweeps of pretreated electrodes. The peaks are possibly caused by quinone-like functional groups, which were previously observed to form on oxidised GC surfaces [87]. That would, however, entail the appearance of a counter peak when the potential is reversed. This may possibly be observed in a three-electrode configuration, and it would therefore be of interest to repeat the study with a RE mounted in the cell, which can be achieved by placing a RE between two sheets of membrane [72].
