RFBs to attain the highest possible performance. Overall, the work of this thesis supports future exploration of quinones and other organic compounds for aqueous RFBs. The initial studies of the molecular electrochemistry assist the selection of compounds with promising stability and activity to perform long-term cycling experiments on. The remarks made about proper execution of cell cycling might act as a guideline for these studies. The EIS studies demonstrate the value of using a model system to rigorously investigate the parameters that influence the reactor performance, and furthermore the importance of controlling these parameters to obtain reliable results. The ability to resolve the internal resistance of the reactor allows future work on a specific system to assess which processes are the most performance limiting, and thereby help reduce costs and drive the RFB technology to widespread implementation. 117
