Teknologins framsteg har gjort dagens jetmotorer till en otroligt komplicerad maskin. Trots det s ̊a ̈ar grundprincipen v ̈aldigt enkel. En cykel i en jetmotor best ̊ar av en kompressor som suger in luft till motorn och h ̈ojer trycket. Luften str ̈ommar in i br ̈annkammaren, d ̈ar den blandas med br ̈anslet och ant ̈ands. Den ant ̈anda gasen str ̈ommar d ̈arefter ̈over turbinen och en viss m ̈angd av energin fr ̊an gasen ̈overf ̈ors som kinetisk energi till turbinen. Detta f ̊ar turbinen att rotera och ̈aven kom- pressorn att rotera, d ̊a de ̈ar sammankopplade. Detta inneb ̈ar att motorn kan suga in mer luft och d ̈armed f ̊a ett kontinuerligt fl ̈ode av gas genom motorn s ̊a l ̈ange br ̈ansle tillf ̈ors. Trots den enkla principen a ̈r genomf ̈orandet i praktiken n ̊agot mer komplicerat, d ̊a luftens fl ̈ode genom delarna i motorn inte ̈ar l ̈atta att f ̈oruts ̈aga och mycket bygger p ̊a experiment och trail and error. I detta projekt har en design f ̈or en enkel jetmotor tagits fram och sedan har arbete p ̊a konstruktionen p ̊ab ̈orjats i verkstaden. Maskiner som anv ̈ants i verkstaden inkluderar svarv, svets, fr ̈as och borr.
