Let us also assume that the concept selected for all of these sub-functions is a fuel- powered (termed "fueldraulic") actuation system consisting of a fuel pumping function, an actuator (i.e. effector) function, fuel connectivity between the pump and actuator, and a closed- loop control connectivity between the actuator and FADEC. This is represented by Figure 2-4. Note that the pumping and actuator functions may give the impression that a particular form is inferred, but the functions are only represented pictorially in this way for clarity. Other subsystems and functions are added to the functional schematic to gain a holistic view of potential packaging options and component architectures. Component architectural options can still be traded at this point based on parametric targets (product cost, weight, reliability, safety, mean time to replace, vulnerability, etc.) that are allocated at the module level. Component requirements that are allocated at the module level (fan, compressor, turbine, control system, etc.) are usually delayed until component architectural decisions are made.
