lightoff margin at a given condition is extremely difficult to quantify without performing a multitude oftests. 5.2 Generic Test Apparatus Generic Test Apparatus (GTA) refers to surrogate hardware that is developed to substitute for "high risk" components (as defined in section 5.1.1) during initial ground engine test. This section discusses the design and implementation considerations that should be made as the GTA hardware is developed. 5.2.1 Architectural Considerations In order to make a strong business case, minimize risk to initial ground test engine development, and enable acquisition ofkey control system design requirement data, some deep thought should be given to the architectural aspects of Generic Test Apparatus (GTA) hardware. As a minimum, the component architecture should meet the following needs: " Minimize setup time. Since hard design decisions are being delayed, components to which the framework is being applied should have a relatively short lead-time and should be reasonably simple to modify. " Maximize durability. In order to make a strong business case, hardware should be capable of usage on multiple programs with varying duty cycles. The design should consider extreme robustness for major structural members such as pressure vessels and replaceable details for wear-susceptible items such as actuator uni-balls. * Maximize functional robustness. To ensure an unencumbered ground test engine development program, system functional capabilities should cover nominal requirements plus requirement uncertainty. * Minimize physical and functional interface differences with "final" design.
