Polymer Bulletin Fig. 5 DMA results of the neat epoxy resin Fig. 6 DMA results of nanocomposite Figures 5 and 6 show, respectively, the main results from the DMA tests, concern- ing about the near epoxy resin and epoxy resin/carbon nanofiber composite contain- ing 30% in volume of nanoreinforcement. From these figures it can be observed that the neat epoxy resin presents a glass transition temperature in the range from 90.5 to 122.8 °C, while the nanostructured composite presents this value in the range from 108.9 to 135.4 °C. Thus, the initial temperature of Tg presented an increase of approximately 20% when the nanostructured composite is compared with the neat resin. The glass transition temperature value of the epoxy resin observed is in accordance with the literature (between 80 and 150 °C) [23]. Many factors can con- tribute to these increases, which can be highlighted: effect of nanostructured rein- forcement; increase in cross-link density and restricted mobility of the side groups due probably to steric hindrance promoted by the interaction between the resin and 13
