Rare Earth-Doped Phosphors for White LEDs Chapter 278 67 1 0.5 0 1 0.5 0 1 0.5 0 ex. AE=Ba em AE=Sr AE=Ca 300 400 Wavelength (nm) Excitation and emission spectra of AEGa2S4:Eu2+ (AE1⁄4alkaline earth). Redrawn from Do, Y.R., Bae, J.W., Kim, Y., Yang, H.G., 2000. Preparation and optical properties of SrGa2S4:Eu phosphor. Bull. Korean Chem. Soc. 21, 295–299; Guo, C., Zhang, C., Lu€, Y., Tang, Q., Su, Q., 2004. Luminescent properties of Eu2+ and Ho3+ co-doped CaGa2S4 phosphor. Phys. Stat. Sol. 201, 1588–1593; Yoo, H.S., Im, W.B., Vaidyanathan, S., Park, B.J., Jeon, D.Y., 2008. Effects of Eu2+ con- centration variation and Ce3+ codoping on photoluminescence properties of BaGa2S4:Eu2+ phosphor. J. Electrochem. Soc. 155, J66–J70. presents a blue–green emission band centered at 498 nm. CaGe2S4:Eu2+ and SrGa2S4:Eu2+ exhibit a green emission (530 nm) and a yellow emission (550 nm), respectively (Ko et al., 2008). The internal quantum efficiency of SrGa2S4:Eu2+ is 71% under excitation at 460 nm (Hidaka and Takizawa, 2008). Kim et al. (2015a,b) reported the SrGa2S4:Eu2+ phosphor embedded in glass materials for white LEDs. Thermal stability of the phosphor against temperature quenching is effectively enhanced. The emission intensity measured at 150°C is $89% of that at 25°C, which is higher by 5% than that of the powdered SrGa2S4:Eu2+ phosphor. Recently, a novel Eu2+-activated CaGa2S4 phosphor with monoclinic morphology was shown to exhibit higher emission intensity compared to the orthorhombic phase CaGa2S4:Eu2+ phos- phor (Suzuki et al., 2012). 4.4 Oxyhalides Oxyhalide phosphors activated with rare earth ions have been used in X-ray intensifier screens and similar radiographic devices. At present, there are few practical oxyhalide phosphors for white LEDs. 4.4.1 Oxychlorides 4.4.1.1 Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu2+ Phosphors Calcium magnesium chlorosilicate with composition Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2 is one of the good phosphor host materials having large chemical and thermal FIG. 64 500 600 Normalized intensity (a.u.)
