Possible Power-to-X transformations whose realization could be facilitated by such a discov- ery framework include CO2 (hydro-)carboxylation to organic acids, formaldehyde, formaldehyde derivatives, and higher alcohols (C2+). Using CO2-derived building blocks such as methanol from upstream Power-to-X conversions may also be considered. Synthetic pathways that combine the CO2-based routes with other renewable feedstocks, such as bio-derived platform chemicals or re- cycled monomers, are particularly attractive, as they facilitate the production of value-added and highly functional chemicals (Figure 6.4).
