This is a retrofit application since the cooling and heating systems are already in place. Currently installed CO2 heat pump system prototypes have not been designed to provide such high load. Hence, the initial cost of this system is difficult to predict. Figure 5-2 shows the achievable pay back period with change in the initial cost of the system. Commercial production of CO2 heat pump system is expected to lower the initial cost and thus, decrease the payback period. With commercialization of the system will make the system more feasible.
