An analysis of hourly energy use of a heat pump home in Climate Zone 10 (Corona/Riverside) produced the above results. • The new Variable Capacity Heat Pump (VCHP) type ductless heat pump results in significantly reduced annual utility bills using SCE’s most current Time-of-Use utility rates for a 2019 code-compliant new home ($638 for conventional gas/electric and $701 for conventional heat pump vs. a far reduced $506 for the VCHP system). • Further savings are achieved through SCE’s PRIME rates – offered to homeowners with heat pump systems – resulting in a savings of $241/year compared to conventional gas/electric systems. • The home equipped with the heat pump has 20% lower carbon dioxide emissions than the home with the traditional gas furnace at 1.59 tons of CO2 versus 2.00 tons. • The VCHP credit likely under-estimates energy savings from heat pump heating and cooling, as it is based on only a portion of measured savings at the Central Valley Research Homes project. More information regarding projected savings can be found on the following page. PROPERTY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON, 2020. DO NOT ALTER. 12
