Exact classification of heat pump is a difficult task, as they can be classified by various parameters like based on the purpose of heat pump, based on the operating cycle, based on the heat source and sink mediums, based on the refrigerant used etc. Figure 2 summarizes various types of heat pumps based on various parameters. 1
