REGULATORY ASSISTANCE PROJECT THE PERFECT FIT | 15 05 06 07 Heat pumps can play an important role in sustainable cooling: Reversible heat pumps can serve as a useful technology for cooling as the same unit used for heating can be used to provide cooling at higher efficiency than a conventional air conditioner. With demand for air-conditioners expected to at least double by 2030, the use of heat pumps could prevent the installation of less efficient cooling appliances – and thus avoid both higher overall electricity consumption and higher peak electricity demand in summers. Heat pumps can help to decarbonise heat networks: Heat pumps come in various sizes, ranging from small household appliances to larger industrial-scale units.
