Method and characterisation The computer measures the signal where the Fourier transformation takes place resulting in a plot of infrared light absorbance (transmittance %) on the y-axis as a function of wave number (1/cm) on the x-axis [155]. 3.2.4.1 FTIR sample preparation KBr disk was cleaned with solvent and no water was used. Few drops of mineral oil were placed in the KBr disk and was inserted in the window holder and placed in the sample compartment. FTIR run was started to obtain mineral oil base line. Few grams of mordenite was grounded by a mortar. 5 mg of fine mordenite particles were mixed with mineral oil. Using a pipette, 2-3 drops of the fine mixture were placed in KBr disk. The plates were inserted in the window holder and placed in the FTIR sample compartment. Using the computer software, the wavenumber range was from 500 and 4000 cm-1. 3.2.5 Zetasizer Nano Series Analyser Zetaszier analyser was used in this research to measure the particle size of carbon black used in gas diffusion layer (GDL) and mordenite material used in mordenite modified binding layer via a process called dynamic light scattering (DLS). The DLS measure the random motion of particles in a fluid (Brownian motion) caused from their collision due to the fast motion of atoms in the fluid. In Brownian motion, the small particles move faster than the large particles.
