Method and characterisation After spraying the catalyst via airbrush, the anode electrode was dried in an oven at 100°C for ten minutes and weighed. The spraying steps were repeated to achieve the target catalyst loading for the electrode. 3.4.3 Cathode Catalyst Layer Preparation: The required platinum loading on the electrode per area was 1.0 mg/cm2. The catalyst used in this work was 60% Pt alloy [Pt:60%, Carbon support (ETEK):40%] Preparing Catalyst Ink: 1.429 g of Nafion 117 solution (5% in a mixture of lower aliphatic alcohols and water, sigma-Aldrich) solution was placed in into vial. 15 ml of Acetone was added into the vial and sonicated for ten minutes until the mixture was homogenous. 0.27 g of catalyst (Pt:60%) was added to the mixture and sonicated for one hour. 3.4.4 StandardBindingLayer The binding layer which was made of Nafion 117 solution enhanced the adhesion between the gas diffusion layer (GDL), the catalyst layer (CL), and the Nafion 117 membrane sheet.
