Therefore, increasing the proton conductivity contributes in reducing the ohmic loss in the fuel cell. 4.5 Effect of Varying Temperature on SULFO-MOR Modified Binding Layer MEA in DMFC The work in the previous section focused on blocking the methanol crossover. The F-MOR modified binding layer MEA was able to reduce the methanol permeability in DMFC but lower the proton conductivity. In this section, the F-MOR was sulfonated to improve the proton conductivity of the F-MOR MEA thus improve the power density of DMFC. Figuring the optimum weight percentage per loading of sulfonated mordenite was carried out prior investigating the temperature effect. The following section shows the optimum weight percentage of sulfonated mordenite modified binding layer MEA in DMFC. 4.5.1 Effect of Varying SULFO-MOR Weight Percent Modified Binding Layer MEA in DMFC The weight percent of the sulfonate mordenite was increased in the Nafion modified binding layer MEA to reach 1.0 wt% of SULFO-MOR inorganic filler. Following the same previous procedure in fabricating the MEA, the modified binding layer MEA was made and acted as a barrier layer between the catalyst layer and the 117 Nafion sheet on the anode side.
