The polarization curve can give a general idea about the loss region in fuel cell. It can be seen from the polarization curve of Figure 6.12 that the activation lose region was slight improved (from 0.59 V to 0.62 V) when mordenite surface was sulfonated. The activation loss depends on the current density range (low, intermediate and high current) and therefore, it affects the fuel cell voltage. The oxidation and reduction reactions at the anode and cathode in the fuel cell requires a driving force to take place which limits the current flow of the fuel cell. This loss can be reflected on the polarization curve in the activation loss region.
