The number of installations in Europe exceeds a hundred, most of them with capacities between 5 and 20 MWe. Most installations are found in countries with a considerable forest industry. Relatively large installations are located in Northern Europe and the Baltic states. Exact data on CHP plants are difficult to find. Based on a number of sources, a database of 45 existing CHP plants was prepared (partly from [9]). It is unknown if the data are a good representation of all EU27 power plants. The graphs given in Figure 8 and Figure 9 are based on (parts) of this database. Figure 9 shows a large spread in electric efficiencies among the power plants. This can be caused by differences in heat utilization.
