Wood chips 1999 Unknown The core of the plant is a water-cooled Babcock & Wilcox vibrating grate furnace. The feedstock is fresh wood chips with a moisture content of around 55% on wet basis. The efficiency is improved by the application of a flue gas condenser. About 27,000 MWh electricity is supplied to the grid annually. Heat is utilized for residential heating. The turbine steam pressure and temperature are 77 bar and 525°C. The district heating is operated with 70 – 90°C feed and 30 - 45°C return temperature. [25] 2.3.3 Efficiency and improvement opportunities The overall efficiency is the sum of the thermal and electrical efficiency. The electrical efficiency is substantially influenced by the capacity. Electrical efficiencies are approximately 10 to 30% for 1 to 50 MWe installations. However, lower actual efficiencies of 10 – 25% on the range from <1 up to 20 MWe [3] are reported. As shown in Figure 9, the spread in efficiencies is significant. Typical average efficiencies are given in Table 10.
