Like Argentina, the government has targeted rural areas that are in need of energy supply. Legislation from the Peruvian government is becoming friendly to renewable development, including a mechanism for setting feed-in tariffs and tax incentives for renewable energy. The government has conducted renewable auctions, including for geothermal, and has a goal for the country to reach 5 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2014.
