In 2010 geothermal energy accounted for 3 percent of renewable energy-based electricity consumption in the United States.78 While the majority of geothermal installed capacity in the US is concentrated in California and Nevada, geothermal power plants are also operating in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. Five additional geothermal projects with gross capacity of approximately 91 MW came on line in 2011 and early 2012. Additional geothermal resources are under development in the US. As of April 2012, there were 147 projects identified under development, with over 5,000 MW of power potential.
