Relatively small differences in the tensile properties are observed in the different directions and are attributed to the elongated grain structure. One notable result not shown in the figures is the anisotropy of the elastic modulus. At room temperature, the modulus in the longitudinal direction is 138 GPa, while in the transverse direction it is 200 GPa. The anisotropy results from the strong texture that this alloy develops as a result of forming (extrusion) and recrystallization. In comparison, the elastic modulus of I- 617 at room temperature is approximately 211 GPa and, unlike MA 754, does not vary appreciably with orientation [Special Metals Corporation, 2005]. The strong variation of the elastic modulus in MA 754 also may present design difficulties. Figure 4-4.
