SCB Lessons Learned • Power by-pass capacitance must be large for contactor drivers • Hot components must be adequately spaced • Use Hi Side drivers with low on resistance and good protection • User I/O at 5V is not adequate - use 24V • Common interface grounding with other equipment is no good - use semi-isolated signals with ‘soft grounds’, or fully isolated signals • Protect (current limit, over voltage, etc) all voltage sources that go out of system or are user accessible • Isolate connections to user equipment. Isolate and/or protect all signals that go out of our system. Protection may be specific to particular signal requirements. • Used daughter card for main processor because it allows heavy etch (high current) on motherboard and fine pitch on daughter card (high density, two sided, etc.). It also allows easier processor/memory upgrades in the future. • Original C200 main uP selected was replaced with the MPC860 used in the Power Server. Overall system and software schedule could not be met with the MPC8250. We already had working tools and board support software for the MPC860 and so could start software tasks much earlier. • We incorporated shields into surface layers of card for EMI reduction. • This list is incomplete.
