Also, the presence of leakages and friction losses can result in a loss in the efficiency of the turbine. Turbine efficiency is defined by comparison with an isentropic expansion. • Heat Exchange: the exchange of heat in both the evaporation and the condensation sections of the process never occur at constant pressure as assumed in the ideal ORC system. The presence of pressure drops in the heat exchangers causes an increase in the pumping power and thus lowers the power obtained from a real ORC system. • Pumping: The electro-mechanical losses and internal leakage lead to irreversibility which transforms part of the useful work to heat, thus reducing the overall efficiency of the real ORC cycle. Hence, in order to develop a model of a real ORC system, all these losses have to be accounted for.
