ABS'PFAGT . The Lysholm engine, or helical s rew expand.or, isa pos displacement engine currently iirder consideration i n geothermal applications. Geothermal wells i n many areas, notably the Imperial Valley i n California, produce 4.B and less quality steam. The Lyshoim is a device which runs well on such two phase flows. Studies show t h i s engine, run i n a staging system with conventional steam ' * turbines driven by the Lysholm exhaust, could produce significant increases i n power available from geothermal fields. This paper describes the performance of a 5"diarneter rotor Lysholm engine prototype running on simulated geothermal flows fron 16 t o 100% quality. k n y aspects of the engine were found t o be quite hopeful, it is a simple, rugged il2vice capable of inodest efficiencies of 3000to9000rpm's.
