ltiiid f After the plant settled out at the resulting point, small adjustments in the flows of brine, isobutane, andlor cooling water were made as re- quired to more closely approximate the desired test situation. The pl8nt was allowed t o restabilize before a data set was taken. Primary data included the following: 1. inlet and outlet water temperatures, 2. cooling-water flow, and 3. shell pressure. Secondary data included the following: 1. shell temperatures (thermistors); 2. shell temperatures (thermocouples); 3. condensate return temperature; 4. vapor-feed temperature; 5. liquid level; 6. vent flow; 7. various temperature, pressure, and flow readings associated with the plant; and 8. local weather observations. After the relevant data were recorded, appropriate system adjustments were made to bring the plant to the next desired operating point, and the data sequence described in the preceding paragraph was repeated. Normal plant shutdown procedures started with isolation of the t a r bine (if in operation) followed by a gradual decrease in brine flow. Other operating parameters were adjusted manually to maintain plant bal- ance until brine flow had ceased and isobutane flow was limited to the bypass. Next the isobutane pmnps were shut down and the evaporator and condenser liquid levels allowed to equalize. Finally, the cooling-water pmnp and cooling tower fan were shut down. 4.2 Sumlemental Procedures The tests reported here were performed after major modifications of the prototype plant.
