During some of the tests, partial data reduction was carried out i n the. field using a Bewlett-Packard Model 97 programmable calculator to give rough guidance for troubleshooting and trend assessment activities. Sub- sequently, all data were subjected to a more detailed and complete reduc- tion using computer programs developed specifically to fmilitate run-to- run performance comparisons (Appendix A). Raw data were converted using instrument calibrations t o give the fundamental quantities (temperatures, pressures, and flow rates) required for further manipulation. These fundamental quantities were then combined with fluid property values to put the results in forms (heat loads, tem- perature differences, or heat transfer coefficients) amenable t o perfor- mance comparisons. For the results presented in Chap. 6, the primary variables used for condenser performance comparisons are heat load and log mean temperature difference. Better performance implies a bigger heat load for ti given temperature difference or a smaller temperature difference for t given heat load.
