Alaska-Canada Energy Coalition ―The Time is Now‖ Forest Supervisor, Tongass National Forest Forrest Cole has been the Forest Supervisor of the Tongass National Forest since 2003. In that ca- pacity, he provides leadership and oversight to employees who work to balance multiple uses of the forest resources. At nearly 17 million acres, the Tongass is the largest national forest in our country— about the same size as West Virginia. Cole has a Bachelor of Science in Forestry degree from Northern Arizona University and joined the Forest Ser- vice over 36 years ago. He began his career in various fire-related jobs in Arizona, and then moved to Alaska in 1979. While on the Tongass, he previously served as: Presale Forester on the Petersburg Ranger District; Small Sales Forester on the Petersburg Ranger District; Timber Management Assistant on the Juneau/Yakutat Ranger Districts; Timber, Minerals, Special Uses Management Assistant on the Juneau Ranger District; Timber and Fire Management Staff Officer on the Stikine Administrative Area; Resources Staff Officer on the Stikine Administra- tive Area; and Forest and Fire Management Staff Officer for the Tongass National Forest. Cole also served in the Regional Office as a member of the Tongass Land Management Planning Team responsible for the timber, vegetation, and subsistence program areas; and as Director of Forest Management. Prior to this he was the Kamloops District Inspector of Mines and Resident Engineer and Re- gional Reclamation Inspector - Inspector of Mines. More recently, Ed was Project Manager for British Columbia's first transportation Public, Private, Partnership; the Sierra Yoyo Desan Road located east of Fort Nelson, and has ongoing involvement with other B.C. based mining companies.
