Oneisaprocesswastewater fromalargecommercialshrimpprocessingoperationlocatedinDelcambre,LA. Thesourceof the organic pollution is residuals fiom the peeling and cleaning of shrimp. The envisioned application of digestion technology is to use the methane produced to offset power use within the processingplantwhilealsotreatingtheirwastestream. Theotherwastestreambeingtestedto date is leachate collected from active cells at the St. Landry Municipal Landfill (located in Washington,LA). Inthiscase,theenvisionedtechnologyusewillbetotreatcollectedleachates usinganaerobicdigestioninplaceofthecurrentlyusedaerobiclagoontreatmentsystem. This application is highly complementary to the existing biogas collection system at the landfill facility,whichcapturesbiogasproducedwithinthecappedareaofthelandfillcells. Biogas collected can either be used for power production andor for operating heavy equipment (trucks and bulldozers).
