Its value increases to the value of almost 1. Therefore, further increase of recuperator volume would not have a significant impact on the cycle efficiency other than the reduction of the pressure drops. The effectiveness of 99% is achieved for the total heat exchanger volume of 50 m3 and increasing the volume beyond this point yields a very small efficiency improvement. Increasing the total heat exchanger volume from 50 to 100 m3 increases the cycle efficiency by about 1%, while increasing the volume from 20 to 50 m3 increases the efficiency by about 4.5%. The shape of the regenerated heat vs. volume plot reflects the value of the optimum pressure ratio. The dips visible in Figure 4.16 are caused by the pressure ratio step of 0.05.
