Consider a case study at the geothermal facilities of Salton Sea and Imperial Valley in Southern California. At these sites, several aquaculture operations use geothermal water to control the water temperatures, improve fish and fish culture facilities, and extend the fish growth season. In addition, these power plants in the Imperial Valley are surrounded by productive farm land, as highlighted in Figure 21 below. Another geothermal plant, the Mammoth power plant in Northern California, is located only miles from the Mammoth Ski Resort and yet does not detract from the natural beauty of the area. In addition, The Geysers field teems with wildlife and still serves as a prime hunting ground for the individuals and hunting clubs that own much of the land.
