operating points of the ORC system. The pump was assumed to have an isentropic efficiency of 80% and the turbine was assumed to have an isentropic efficiency of 70%. The definition of isentropic efficiency for a pump and a turbine were modified to calculate the actual values of the working fluid at state points two and four. Equation 2.9 below shows the definition of isentropic efficiency for a turbine. (2.9) (2.10) Equation 2.10 shows equation 2.9 solved for the actual enthalpy of the fluid at state 4. The subscripts in the equation correspond to the state points of the cycle where 3 and 4 are the ideal values and 4a is the actual value. These equations can be applied to the pump if the states are moved from 3 and 4 to states 1 and 2 respectively. These equations are shown below. (2.11) (2.12) The main difference between the equations for the pump and the turbine are the state points used and the value of the isentropic efficiency.
