424 Injection Pump Production Well Station Well AE, Scanner (HTBS) Chapter 4 Review of EGS and Related Technology – Status and Achievements 4.6 Ogachi 4.6.1 Project history Volcanic Rock Upper Fracture (300,000m ) AE Sensor 1027m SilenceSr eparator Borehole 300m Measurement Grano-diorite House High Temperature (711~719m, 170°C) 700m 0 150km Japan Temperature Pool Pressure The Ogachi project is in Akita Prefecture, near Kurikoma National Park on Honshu Island, Japan (see Figures 4.8 and 4.11). The first exploration wells were drilled between 1982 and 1984 on the edge of the Akinomiya geothermal area, using the Mt. Yamabushi volcano as the heat source. The site was considered as an EGS project because, while temperatures were high – more than 230°C at 1,000 m (see Figure 4.11) – the productivity of the wells was low (Hori, 1999). Lower Fracture (500,000m ) (990~1027m, 230°C) 1100m Ogachi Site Figure 4.11 Illustration of the Ogachi HDR experiment (Kitano et al., 2000). 22 Tokyo Flow Rate AE Sensor The well later used as an injection well, OGC1, was drilled in 1990 to a depth of about 1,000 m and a temperature of 230°C. Two fracture stimulations were done in the 10 meters of open hole in the bottom of the well. Then a window was milled in the casing at a depth of 710 m, and a second fracture (termed the upper reservoir) was created from approximately 710719 m. Production well OGC2 was drilled in 1992 to a depth of 1,100 m, where a temperature of 240°C was reached. The well is less than 100 m from OGC1. A circulation test in 1993 with injection into OGC1 and production from OGC2 showed only 3% of injected water was produced. To improve the connection between the wells, OGC2 was stimulated in 1994. A fivemonth circulation test following this stimulation showed that only 10% of the injected water was produced back (Kiho, 2000). The production and injection wells were again stimulated in 1995. A onemonth circulation test showed an improved recovery of more than 25% of the total injection.
