It was reported that US$ 55 k funding remained available in the GIA Common Fund for proposals supporting GIA/Annex-related activities; successful proposals supporting the Induced Seismicity Workshop (Reykjavik, Iceland) and the IEA Geothermal Roadmap (US$ 10 k each) had been paid/funded earlier in 2010. Takatsune Ito presented the IEA Secretariat report, describing several IEA activities and projects, including the ones involving the GIA: the IEA Renewable Energy Essentials: Geothermal brochure and the IEA Geothermal Roadmap. He noted that a new IEA logo had been designed especially for the use of the Implementing Agreements. The ExCo had earlier agreed to hold the 25th ExCo Meeting and the Annex meetings in Paris, France, on 5-6 May 2011 and 4 May, respectively, at IEA Head Quarters with IEA support. 1.5 GIA Participation in IEA Activities in 2010 The GIA‘s active involvement with the IEA continued at a high level in 2010. The GIA participated in the IEA Energy Technology Network Communication Seminar/Workshop on 7 September 2010; provided information for and reviewed the final draft of the IEA Renewable Energies in Cities report; contributed to the ―Keeping the Heat On‖ geothermal section of the IEA Energy Technology Initiatives report; provided expert review and comments on Chapter 3: Electricity generation and Chapter 8 Basic Science for Energy in the IEA Energy Technologies Perspectives report; completed revisions of the GIA Implementing Agreement document with the assistance of the IEA Legal Office; worked closely with IEA to complete the IEA Renewable Energy Essentials: Geothermal brochure; participated in all three Geothermal Roadmap Workshops and provided significant review and comment on the various drafts of the IEA Geothermal Roadmap document, and the GIA Secretary attended and made a presentation (Geothermal Energy- International Cooperation for its Promotion and Sustainable Development by Mongillo and Bromley) at the final (Bandung, Indonesia) Workshop; and provided the article: ―Geothermal‘s Rising Fortunes‖ for Issue 68 (June 2010) of the IEA OPEN Bulletin. 1.6 Other GIA Activities The GIA published the Proceedings of the Joint IEA-GIA~IGA Workshop Geothermal Energy- Its Global Development Potential and Contribution to Mitigation of Climate Change (Mongillo, 2010) in March 2010 as a reference source for the expert presentations made and to document the associated panel and general discussions at the Workshop held in Madrid, Spain, on 5-6 May 2009. The GIA had a significant and very successful presence at the World Geothermal Congress 2010, held in Bali, Indonesia, on 26-30 April 2010. Several Annex papers were presented at the technical sessions and a general paper by M.A. Mongillo, C.J. Bromley and L. Rybach describing the GIA‘s activities: The IEA Geothermal Implementing Agreement- International Efforts to Promote Global Sustainable Geothermal Development and Help Mitigate Climate Change was a keynote address that introduced a major Panel Discussion. In addition, the GIA sponsored an exhibition booth which attracted over 100 visitors that the Secretary and many ExCo and Annex Members spoke to about the international geothermal energy scene and the organizations activities. Twenty Country and Sponsor Members, Annexes and general GIA posters were displayed and hundreds of GIA and IEA documents and CD-Roms were distributed. The GIA also participated at the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) 2010 Annual Meeting, Sacramento, California, USA, with the presentation of an IEA-GIA paper by Mongillo and 31
