The expenses for operating the GIA Secretariat, including the Secretary‘s salary and travel, website hosting, and other common costs of the ExCo, are met from a GIA Common Fund. In 2010, these costs amounted to a total of about US$ 96,000. In addition, the GIA funded several projects and proposals:  GIA Projects (total: ~US$ 7,700): WGC Exhibition Booth, costs associated with Secretary‘s participation at the final IEA Geothermal Roadmap Workshop held in Bandung, Indonesia.  Proposal Funding (total: US$ 14,000): funded proposal contributions for the Secretary‘s effort as Guest Editor of the Geothermics Special Issue on Sustainable Geothermal Utilization and the GIA Contribution towards IEA Geothermal Roadmap. Consequently, the total costs of GIA operations in 2010 amounted to US$ 117,700. The Common Fund is supported through cost-sharing, with each GIA Member paying an annual contribution based upon a fair apportionment in the form of an allocated number of shares. The number of shares assigned to each new Member is determined by the unanimous agreement of the ExCo. The apportionment for the current GIA Membership is shown in Table 1.4. The Common Fund is administered by a Custodian, currently the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), based in Golden, Colorado, USA, who also conducts an annual review of its financial operations. The cost per Common Fund share, set by unanimous ExCo decision, was US$ 3,500/yr in 2010. Contributions are made annually on a calendar year basis. 1.8 References Geothermics, 2010.
