investigations. A great deal of well written detailed data was presented concerning the general geology of the region and the Glenwood Springs vicinity, the thermal aquifer (the Mississippian age Leadville Limestone [ML]), the drilling and testing of the Redstone well, interference between the Redstone well, the Wright well, and the Yampah Spring, and efforts being considered to minimize salinity of the Colorado River. Numerous diagrams, photographs, chemical analyses, data tables, maps, and cross-sections also greatly contributed to the contractor’s geoscientific understanding of the study area. APRIL 13-16 SITE VISIT Dr. Lund, Ms Boyd and Mr. Huttrer arrived in Glenwood Springs just after noon on April 13. They then walked the southern bank of the Colorado River, from opposite the Pool to about 2/3 the distance to the I-70 tunnel, examining the numerous thermal seeps issuing at and just above water level. For most springs and seeps, the temperatures and pH (acid or base tendency) were recorded, the degree of efflorescence (calcium precipitated on local rocks) was noted as was the color of the algae (temperature dependant) and the estimated flow rate. Numerous digital photographs were taken and two water samples were collected. Photo 1. Warm spring seeps looking east along the Colorado River. The group then visited the Pool and met with the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Kjell Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell led a tour of the property (not including the Hotel or the Lodge) and answered questions about the Yampah Spring, the collection cistern, the many heat exchangers submerged in the cistern, the water purification systems, and the overflow/exhaust piping.
