The group then returned to Mr. Moffatt’s office where more detailed written information was loaned for the duration of this project. Next was a meeting with Task Force member George Wear. He provided information on much the same subjects as the four other men interviewed, but with his own insights. Finally, in the morning of April 16, the three contractors met with Robin Millyard at City Hall where they were given copies of City maps at different scales, some annotated air photographs, and a CD containing electronic versions of all the above described materials. All of this data will be of great help as the project is conducted and the report prepared. Just before 10 AM, all three of the contractors departed Glenwood. Upon return from the field visit, Michael Galloway was contacted to obtain his opinions on the merits of further developing the Leadville Limestone resource and his thoughts regarding possible adverse effects on existing thermal water users. Mr. Galloway was very much in favor of new development but he did say that interference with the Yampah Spring could be expected to result. He would not speculate on its possible severity or potential for “damage”. INTERVIEWS (IN-PERSON AND BY TELEPHONE) The gist of these interviews has been presented above. Below is an alphabetically arranged summary list of the persons contacted as the project proceeded: • Michael Galloway, ERO Engineers, highly experienced Glenwood Springs area geologist and hydrologist. • Joe Kracum – Glenwood Springs resident, consulting project manager, geothermal development advocate. • Kjell Mitchell – Glenwood Hot Springs Pool COO & Manager, Geothermal Task Force member. • Dean Moffatt – Sundesigns Architects, GSHP advocate, Geothermal Task Force member. • Wayne Shelton – Shelton Drilling Corporation, drilling cost estimate. • George Wear – Consulting Engineer, Geothermal Task Force member. • Thomas Zancanella – Consulting Engineer, Geothermal Task Force member. A PROJECT CONCERN One important matter of concern related to possible new consumptive use of the Leadville limestone underlying Glenwood Springs is the permeability of the area’s geothermal resource. This formation, underlying many hundreds of square miles throughout central Colorado, is a recognized thermal water reservoir with abundant fracture, joint, and cavern-related storage capacity. Because of the conductivity of the thermal aquifer, fluid withdrawal from geothermal wells drilled in the Glenwood Springs area may affect, to some degree, the yield of other users’ water sources. 12
