formations of the upper plate have been displaced about two thousand feet to the southwest. It is likely that this fault is one of the major conduits through which thermal waters contained under artesian pressure in the Leadville Limestone reach the ground surface in the Colorado River valley. Figure 5, below (see also Figure 1 from Bishop-Brogdan Associates, 1994) shows the West Glenwood Thrust Fault from the southwest and two major normal faults known as the Wright and the Redstone faults. The Wright fault was intersected in the 571 foot deep Wright well (see Figure 1). It strikes northeasterly on a trend that goes from the Wright well parallel to the course of the Colorado River east of Glenwood Springs. This fault dips steeply (65-70 degrees) to the southeast and displaces transected formations by about 1,000 feet. It too is considered to be an important conduit of thermal waters issuing from the Yampah and other springs. The Redstone fault was intersected in the Redstone well (see Figure 1), strikes northeast sub- parallel to the Wright fault, and dips steeply to the northwest with a displacement of less than 1,000 feet. As is the case with the West Glenwood and Wright faults, the Redstone fault is likely to be a thermal water conduit. Numerous northwesterly striking faults have been mapped by previous workers in the area; however most of these are within the White River Uplift to the north or within the reaches of Glenwood Canyon to the east of the project area. The existence of all these fractures attests to the strong deformational forces at work in the Glenwood Springs region and is a major factor in promoting permeability within the Leadville Limestone.
