Dear Dr. Lund and Mr. Huttrer, Thank you for your excellent work on the draft geothermal evaluation report for the City of Glenwood Springs. After our task force meeting last week (7/16/09), I have had a chance to reread the draft report and refine my comments, summarized below. 3. 4. 5. 6. Thank Recommendation #6 (pages 5 and 46‐47), district heating: I suggest that we add to the list of investigations a potential customer survey. Page 17, first paragraph: are the two references to 122°F correct? Page 18, “Impermeable Caps” section, strike the word “always” from the last sentence. Page 28, Section 4. District Heating..., first paragraph: the Redstone Well is 155 feet deep. you for your consideration of these comments. 1. 2. I think the title of the report should include mention of the geothermal resource evaluation that was part of your work. Regarding the issue of too much emphasis on legal and water rights issues in the report, as discussed at the task force meeting, I recommend revising the report as follows: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. Page 1: delete the last paragraph of the Introduction. Page 2, last paragraph: delete sentence, “Accordingly, iron‐clad...” Page 3, paragraph, “District Heating by Pumping and Injecting”: delete sentence, “Again, agreements...” Page 4, Recommendations: i. Delete #1. ii. Replace #2 as follows: “If significant thermal waters are produced, the drilling of a reinjection well is recommended to help maintain pressure and temperature in the geothermal aquifer and to help mitigate any possible negative effects on existing thermal water users.” iii. Delete #4. Page 5, Recommendations: i. #6a: change third sentence to read, “A long term test (one week) could include monitoring...”. ii. #6c: change second sentence to read, “This would likely involve execution...” Page 11, Delete the section “A Project Concern”. Page 28, Section 4. District Heating..., first paragraph: change the fourth sentence to read, “One concern to be addressed is where...”. Also, delete the last sentence from this paragraph. Page 37, second to last paragraph: delete the last part of the sentence, “...thus not impacting other users of the geothermal resource.” Page 38, District Heating section: delete the second sentence. Page 39, Waste Water Resource section: delete the third sentence. Page 46, Recommendations: see revisions above in 2d and 2e. Page 48, Road Map: replace #7 as follows: “Develop agreements, as necessary, with other resource users, potential customers, property owners, and others.” George Wear George Wear Consulting LLC 214 8th Street, Suite 303
