Most of the renewable energy investments have taken place in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean, (figure 2). The majority of GEF funding is directed to projects that promote a range of RETs (figure 3) without indicating specific technologies. This is because the GEF’s role is to catalyze and transform energy markets generally, not to pick single RETs within the market.
