Tällä tuotolla viiden vuoden takaisinmaksuajalla laitos saa maksaa noin 2,66 M€. Tähän tulokseen pääs- tiin olettamalla sähkön hinnaksi 60 €/MWh. OTEC-teorioissa on mainittu, että meriveden virtaus imuputkessa on oltava alle 2 m/s, jotta häviöiden osuus jää 20–30 % tasolle. Tämä vaikuttaa merivesiputkiston kokoon, joka puolestaan tuo lisähaasteita. Putken halkaisijan laskemiseen pitää sel- vittää veden tilavuusvirta.
