AVI cont. 3. F/V Night Rider’s wheelhouse got a much needed face lift including electronics. The ves- sel was also retrofitted with a new knuckle boom for the 2010 tendering season. After ten- dering, the vessel will fish for halibut in August. 4. F/V Taty Z wintered in False Pass after the 2009 season. A new wheel was installed and the bottom was painted in King Cove during the month of May. The vessel will fish out of Atka this summer. 5. F/V AP-1 will serve as a tender vessel for the St. George skiff fleet again this summer. 6. F/V AP-2 to fish local IFQ and CDQ halibut this season in Atka. Martin Zaochney of Atka will serve as skipper. 7. Tourism Vessel, Pogo will be launched in July for the 2010 tourism season. APS Rebuild The APS plant rebuild project was completed in May and the plant reopened for the season’s first delivery of fish on May 27, 2010. Shawn Hansen, APICDA’s Construction Manager, was able to pull from the local labor pool in Atka throughout the life of the project. The new facil- ity increases the cold storage capacity and enlarges the processing area. A scan grader, skinner, and strapper were purchased to im- prove the product handling ability. While pro- duction plans have not been finalized, APS management intends to begin a modest, proto- type value added production program this year. At a minimum, management hopes to double previous production amounts of halibut fletches. Halibut and sablefish products are expected to be produced this year. APS is fortunate to have renewed its relationship with Josh Trosvig and the F/V CYNOSURE. Josh has reliably caught and delivered sablefish to APS in the past. Tourism APICDA’s tourism division attended five trade shows this winter; Safari Club Show in Dallas, Texas; Safari Club Show in Reno, Nevada; Eastern Sport Show in Harrisburg, Pennsyl- vania; International Sportsman's Expo in Phoe- nix, Arizona; and the Fred Hall Boat and Sport Show in Long Beach, California. Tourism man- ager, George Weaver, was assisted at each show by various guests, among them Nelson Lagoon resident Arlene Nelson; Aleutian Ad- ventures guide, Merle Brandell; board member Rick Lauber; and board member Mark Sniga- roff, with his two sons Luke and Mark Jr. Bookings for the upcoming 2010 tourism sea- son have increased in part due to the trade show exposure. To date, Nelson Lagoon will see 24 fishermen and 7 duck hunters for a total of 31; Ugludax Lodge has 8 fishermen booked August and 16 reindeer hunters Oct- Nov 1st for a total of 24; Atka has 1 fishing party and 6 reindeer hunters for a total of 7.
