EFGT-Cycle The working medium used in the EFGT-cycle simulations where helium, nitrogen and helium/carbon-dioxide. After expansion in the turbine some of the remaining heat is recycled in a recuperator. Further downstream an additional cooling of the working medium takes place in a district heat exchanger. The working medium is then compressed in a two stage compressor with intercooling by district heating circuit and in some cases by additional cooling water in between. After compression the working medium is pre-heated in the recuperator before entering the FGHX (4) and attaining a temperature of 550°C. And as mentioned before the EBHX(3) will increase the temperature to 800°C before the working fluid is allowed to expand in the turbine, thus completing a full cycle. Since the temperature do not exceed 800°C no cooling of the turbine blades is necessary, [28]. Figure 2.12 Closed EFGT cycle, [28] System Performance Since this was a theoretical study no system performance test has been done. Still the simulation gives an indication of how such a plant would perform. The simulations were done with different setups and working fluids, generating results in a wide range. Though the results show that for a plant below 10 MWel the electrical efficiencies is in the range of 30.7- 37.6 % and the thermal efficiencies are in the region 85.7-105.5% including flue gas condensation, [28]. 29PDF Image | Biomass Based Small Scale Combined Heat and Power Tech
