Heat and Electricity Generation by Gasification There are several different CHP generation systems based on the gasification of biomass. As mentioned before the product gas is very versatile and can for example be used in a gas engine, combined cycle or indirect fired gas turbine (IFGT). However, the common problem for this approach is that the product gas often needs some type of cleaning from tars, particles and alkali compounds which might damage engines and turbines, [37]. The cleaning process is often expensive which have a negative effect on the electricity generation cost. Biomass gasification is a technique under development and hopefully it will be more attractive in a near future.
