Reference Plants The reference plants for the gas engine chapter are chosen from the criteria of economic viability, actual operating hours and “state of the art” in the area. The plants that are discussed are the Güssing plant, since it is one of the first semi-commercial plants based on the gas engine technology in Europe. The Harboore plant was also discussed, because it has been in operations since 1993 and therefore has generated some long-term data. In addition two plant that are under start-up were also discussed, namely the Kokemäki- and Movisala plant. Güssing The Güssing plant located in the south eastern part of Austria, can be considered as on of the predecessors in biomass gasification technology. The plant uses a Fast Internal Circulation Fluidised Bed gasifier (FICFB-gasification) combined with a Jenbacher gas engine for electricity production. The plant was commissioned in the year 2002 and has a fuel power of 8 MWfuel and an electrical and thermal heat output of 2 MWel and 4.5 MWth respectively.
