11 The cost of a heater and of a condenser is directly proportional it its heat transfer area . As such, we calculated the heat transfer areas of the preheater and condenser for both OFC and ORC for our cost assessment. It is important to note that, while the OFC does not require an evaporator or a regenerator, it requires a larger preheater and condenser. The heat transfer area comparison of the preheater between the OFC and the ORC is presented in Table 2. The heat transfer area comparison of the condenser is presented in Table 3. Condenser Area Comparison between OFC and ORC With the heat transfer area ratio between the OFC and the ORC, the cost of the preheater and the condenser in an OFC can be extrapolated from the costs in an ORC. For example, in a 1 MW ORC, the preheater contributes to 17.7% of the total component cost (the cost breakdown of the ORC heater and condenser is shown in Table 4 below), and so the cost of the preheater in the OFC is calculated by multiplying 17.7% with the ratio of the heat transfer area to the power of 0.612. This represents 30.7% of the total component cost. The cost of the condenser in the OFC is calculated using the same method.
