Stage 2: Primary Market Considerations Based on research and interviews with industry experts, three criteria were identified as primary market considerations in narrowing down the list of potential applications for the OFC: i) market size, ii) technological complexity, and iii) market appetite. Specifically, findings on these areas are provided below before each of the applications from Stage 1 are assessed on a relative high, medium, and low scale for these three market criteria. Market Size: While heat-to-power as a whole represents a huge market, specific applications vary in opportunity. As noted before, there are a substantial number of biomass installations, but they generate a relatively small portion of overall power output. Whereas, there are fewer geothermal installations, but these comprise a large portion of overall power output in the heat-to-power sector. Neither can automatically be assumed to be more optimal.
