Market Appetite: Assuming that OFC technology works, what will ultimately drive adoption is the customer appetite for the system, which will be heavily influenced by: 1) power prices and 2) incumbent technologies, essentially, alternatives to installing a heat-to-power system. One of the strongest market influences for adoption of heat-to-power technology is power prices. When power prices are high, potential customers seek new ways to either generate revenues to sell into the market or avoid paying high electricity costs. When power prices are low, the economics of installing a new, capital intensive system is significantly less attractive. Payback time is a direct function of power prices. Figure 9.
