Licensing Company Profiles Given the benefits of the licensing approach described above, we structured our conversations with companies in the ORC sector in the context of exploring opportunities for licensing. While we gauged interest across a broad base of ORC companies (See Appendix C for more details), we focused most exclusively on the basis of the following parameters: • Licensing Appetite: To what degree has the company expressed interest in licensing a technology like OFC into their portfolio based on our initial conversations? • Dedicated Group for Transition: Does the company have a team that brings new licensed technologies into their product portfolio? • Degree of Market Overlap with Identified Markets: Do the companies currently serve our three target markets and to what degree? • Company Growth Prospects: Is the company financially healthy and on a growth trajectory? Using the parameters above and the licensing rationale communicated to us by LBNL, we have determined that at this point the following companies exhibit the best characteristics of a suitable licensing partner: General Electric, Ormat Technologies and TAS Energy. General Electric With a market capitalization of over $200 billion and business operations across energy infrastructure, aviation, healthcare, transportation and home and business solutions, General Electric (“GE”) is one of the largest companies in the world. General Electric is active in the heat recovery space and is especially focused on investing in infrastructure for geothermal power assets. Our main contact at GE, Lance Woolley, is a Product Technology Manager and has expressed interest in a potential licensing relationship with LBNL on the OFC technology. He has also offered to review some of the cost assessment details that are captured in this report. GE has committed $8 billion for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets including geothermal and hence, could be an interesting licensee of the OFC technology. Ormat Technologies Founded in 1965, Ormat Technologies (“Ormat”) is the world leader in the geothermal power plant sector with over 560 MW in installations. Ormat’s geothermal power plants are based on their proprietary “Ormat Energy Converter” system which is an implementation of the ORC technology96.
