• The teams at LBNL include: o Marketing team o Licensingteam • If there is interest by the scientist or potential players in the market they pursue an aggressive marketing campaign that is marked by the dissemination of thousands of e- mails, etc. • Once the marketing campaign is out, they start talking to companies that are interested o They currently have not received any leads for this project but our progress is promising o If the market is limited, they will file only in the US...if it seems to be bigger, they may file PCP (worldwide patent) • Shanshan gets involved when a company reaches out to LBNL and she gauges interest She tries to see what types of applications the company is thinking about She makes sure they have good credentials If all is good, they have more confidential discussions before a final decision is made • Types of license / details: o Discussion on revenue is performed up front o Minimum Royalty rates o License issuance fee needs to be agreed upon o In their experience, lots of companies want to have exclusive licenses but the cost is expensive and so many don’t o They try to cover the cost of managing the case in doing the licenses...not looking to make a profit o Non-exclusive license is what most get o Math behind the calculations?
