• For OFC, its very good research – very thorough and in the end, it’s correct. It’s definitely better than the traditional, simple ORC, however, the traditional simple ORC is not being used these days. Cascaded systems are being used out there today. Hence, the accurate comparison needs to be done against newer facilities with update technologies that are more advanced than the simple ORC • Kalina system is close to what OFC is trying to do, it’s a comparable two-phase system. Kalina has been available to the market for 25 years or so, but only has an installed base 4, 5 MW. OFC offers some simplicity compared to something like Kalina, but still with added complexity • Fundamentally, it’s about more than just a purely technical perspective. Net output and lifecycle costs are the critical considerations. o From an economics standpoint, payback in the 0 – 5 year range for industrial applications is standard. Ormat won’t invest unless it’s a 3 year payback or less, which is pretty unrealistic right now. • Alternative projects out there in traditional heat recovery out there that are 10MW, 20MW. Lower cost per kW than ORC and have better payback. • Ormat operates also at higher grade waste heat recovery; example – gas turbine exhaust. Proof is in the pudding. Still operating and generating revenue. • Two main markets exist for Ormat – geothermal and waste heat. Both are very large markets with still a ton of opportunity. Geothermal looks best right now – it’s been active longer with subsidies and incentives available.
